In celebration of the recently passed International Woman´s Day (March 8th) the Paraguay Marathon Club has organized the second annual “Carrera de la Mujer.” The event, which includes a 5k and 10k option, will be held this Sunday at Parque Ñu Guazu. Inscriptions are open until this Wednesday and the fee is Gs. 60,000. You can probably expect lots of free goodies to be included. Ñu Guazu means “large field” and that is exactly what it is – a large field with a walking and bike path. The walking path runs by a small lake, a lily pond, and there are two major ¨rest areas¨ with equipment for stretching and snack bars. Many of the trees and plants are labeled so you can also learn about Paraguayan flora while getting some exercise (although the race might not be the best time to do so!).
To get to Ñu Guazu take Aviadores del Chaco towards the airport. Ñu Guazu is on the lefthand side right after the intersection of Aviadores and Madame Lynch… if you reach the soccer fountain then you´ve gone too far! By bus take Linea 30 (Aeropuerto) which goes down Olivia/Cerro Corá in the Centro and then down Av. España and Aviadores.
Drive by museum: while driving down Aviadores keep an eye out for my favorite museum, the “Mini Museo Aeronáutico” set up in the the median.

Ñu Guazu significa “campo grande” y es un nombre apto ya que el parque es un campo grande con senderos para caminata y bicicleta. El sendero pasa por una laguna chica, otra ornamental y hay dos áreas de descanso con equipos para estiramientos y cantinas. Muchas de los árboles y otras plantas tienen etiquetas botánicas asique puedes aprender sobre la flora de Paraguay y hacer ejercicio a la misma ves (¡aunque quizás la carrera no sea el mejor momento para eso!).
Para llegar a Ñu Guazu hay que tomar Aviadores del Chaco hacia el Aeropuerto. Queda a la mano izquierda justo después del cruce entre Aviadores y Madame Lynch … si ves la fuente de fútbol ya lo pasaste! En colectivo hay que tomar la Linea 30 (Aeropuerto) que pasa por Olivia/Cerro Corá en el Centro y después por Av. España y Aviadores.
Museo desde auto: mientras vas por Aviadores puedes disfrutar de mi museo favoríto, el “Mini Museo Aeronáutico,” instalado en el divisor de la calle.
