Curiously most Guaraní words containing “jagua” have to do with felines, not dogs. Apparently “jagua” used to mean “jaguar” but this meaning morphed after the Spanish arrived to the continent with dogs. Now jaguars are refered to as “jaguarete” which means “looks like a dog.”

Jaguarete ka´a is a veeery bitter medicina herb (yuyo or in Guaraní “pojha ñana”). “Ka´a” is yerba or herb (generally yerba máte). If your stomach is upset drinking jaguareteka´a will help but it will be tough to get down!

Curiousamente la mayoría de palabras en Guaraní que contienen “jagua” tienen que ver con felinos, no perros. Parece ser que antiguamente “jagua” significaba “jaguar” pero se cambió a “perro” después de la llegada de los Españoles (quienes trajeron perros al continente). Ahora a los jaguares se les llama “jaguarete,” lo cual significa “parece perro.”

Jaguareteka´a es un yuyo (planta medicinal o en Guaraní “pojha ñana”) suuuuper amargo. “Ka´a” significa yerba (generalmente se refiere a yerba máte). ¡Si te molesta el estómago puedes tomar un té de jaguareteka´a pero será difícil de tragar!
