“Ñembo” means pretend or fake in Guaraní. “Ñembo” is a fun Guaraní word to use in conjunction with other words. For example:
Ñembotaby: ñembo + taby (dumb) = play dumb
“Me hice el ñembotaby” I played dumb.
Ñembovalé : ñembo + valé (smart) = pretending to be smart
Really you can take almost any description and add a “ñembo” to it. A useful way to think of “ñembo” is “wannabe.” For example in October the president brought home a handful of completely unqualified political appointees that Nicanor (the ex-President) had sent on diplomatic missions (one of them was Nicanor´s ex-chauffer). The headline in one the tabloids here read: “¡Chutan a 53 ñembo diplomáticos!” “53 ñembo diplomats get the boot!”

En verdad se puede tomar casi cualquier descripción y agregarle un “ñembo.” Puedes usar “Ñembo” como si fuese “quiere y no puede” o un falso. Por ejemplo, en octubre el Presidente destituyó a muchos diplomáticos nombrados por el gobierno anterior más por relaciones de amistad que por méritos profesionales (uno era el ex-chofer de Nicanor). El titular de un diario popular decía: “¡Chutan a 53 ñembo diplomáticos!”
